Message from Mike...

Dear Concert-goers

We have made a very good start to the new year of concerts, despite having a cancellation due to COVID at short notice. With less than four hours before the concert, it was too late to find a replacement last week.

In November we managed to re-arrange a concert at 26 hours’ notice, making an important discovery of two excellent musicians. The performance was so successful, they will be coming back on 12 May: Kirsten Jenson (cello) and Neil Crossland (piano) to play two fantastic cello sonatas (Chopin and Shostakovich).

This week we have a Flute-piano duo. Pianist Lance Mok has been to us before to play a solo programme; Karen Wong Ka Wing comes for the first time. As always, they are brilliant musicians with impressive CVs.

Ticket Prices

As most of you will know, we have recently given careful thought to our finances, and how to balance the different concerns:

  • to be able to pay performers something that is acceptable

  • to be able to cover costs to the church for the premises and the support we receive

  • and to keep admission charges low enough to encourage people to come and give classical music a go.

Consequently, we have decided to raise the admission price from £5 to £7 – sorry about this. On the other hand, we are pleased to be able to pay fees (up by c. 43%) that are a little more in line with what is recommended by the Musicians Union.

I hope you’ll be able to come tomorrow. Ordinary precautions are still in place (registering attendance, masks, hand sanitising).

With best wishes

Mike Butterworth
